Be the change: Unite for a Better Internet

This is this year’s theme to celebrate this Safer Internet Day. This day is celebrated annually, on the second Tuesday in February in more than 120 countries worldwide. Its goal is to promote and talk about the need for a safer Internet, especially for children and young people.

This initiative is spearheaded by the European Union though Insafe, a European network of awareness centres that promote a safer Internet. Last year the campaign was called a Better Internet for Kids (www.betterinternetforkids.eu).

What actions can be taken to make the Internet safer?

  1. Children and young people should adopt the stance of the digital citizens of the future and make their voice heard. They should be polite, creative and respectful in the online world, protect their digital reputations, and report any harmful content or behaviour.
  2. Parents and guardians should support children in their digital development. They should have open, honest discussions about their online experiences and help them face up to their problems and concerns.
  3. Teachers and social workers should make children and young people aware of and teach them the digital skills for conducting themselves properly in today’s world by empowering them to be digitally creative, reliable and resilient.
  4. Industry should create and promote positive content and safe online services. It should support users by giving them advice, tools and information pathways that are easily accessible.
  5. Authorities and politicians should take government initiatives and make laws that give rise to a culture where education, support and the self-regulation of digital content and services can be successfully set up and run.

Cybersecurity and tips on online security

Cybersecurity is increasingly important in a digital world like ours. Unfortunately, cybercriminals are always one step ahead of honest users. That is why it is important to raise awareness among all Internet users that they should be careful of how they use the web and the information they disclose.

Education, awareness and the use of common sense on the Internet are key factors in avoiding unpleasant surprises.

At MoraBanc we are very aware of the importance of IT security, which is why we are constantly improving our online security measures.

Through this information graphic, we would like to do our bit in making the Internet better by giving 10 online security tips.
